Apple Pie Wontons

I love fried wontons stuffed with just about anything! As we enter fall, these sweet wontons are a perfect ending to most fall meals.


12 wonton wrappers

2 large apples, I used pink ladies but a good Fuji or honey crisp would also work.

2 T arrowroot powder

1/4 c brown sugar

1 t cinnamon

1/2 t nutmeg

1/4 t ground ginger

1/4 t ground cloves

1/2 t salt

4 cups vegetable oil


Place arrowroot, brown sugar and all the spices in a bowl. Mix well.

Peel and core the apples. Cut into fine dice. Toss the apples with the sugar and spice mixture.

Place a wonton wrapper on your prep surface. Put a rounded tablespoon of the Apple mixture in the center. Brush the edges with water and fold into wonton bags. Alternatively you can roll the wonton like a regular egg roll around the apple stuffing.

Heat 4 cups of a neutral oil in a pan or prepare your deep fryer according to its directions. When the oil reaches 350 degrees, gently place the wontons in the oil. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes when wontons are golden brown.

Drain fried wontons on paper towels.

Serve warm. Pairs well with caramel ornvanilla ice cream.
